Our Advice Volunteers form the heart of our service, delivering free impartial advice to local people to help them overcome their problems and move forward with their lives.  All our Advice Volunteers undergo an intensive training and mentoring period before they start to deliver advice and will receive the full support of our experienced supervisors once they are up and running.

Advice Volunteer Tasks
  • Delivering advice to local people in-person, by phone or via email
  • Writing accurate case notes
  • Identifying unfair processes / procedures
  • Liaising with colleagues and supervisors to decide the best source of action

Skills and Experience
  • A desire to help other people
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident using computers and have basic IT skills
  • Able to understand sometimes complex information and explain it to others.

Commitment

All our Advice Volunteers must complete our adviser training programme before they can support people with advice.  We usually run our training programme once or twice a year and it takes around three months to complete (usually consisting of weekly half-day classroom style sessions, half-day weekly observation sessions and some home learning).

Once you’ve completed your training, you’ll be expected to volunteer one day a week (or two half-day’s) for at least 12 months in either Winchester or Wickham.

What’s in it for you?

Being an Advice Volunteer is a hugely rewarding role. No two days are the same and it’s a great way of keep your mind active, learn new skills, meet new people, build confidence and increase your employability. Our volunteers include students, people getting back into work after career breaks, people with part-time jobs and people who’ve retired.
