The latest Ofgem price increase will see average energy bills go up 6.4% from April. This comes at a time when the number of people living in a household in debt to their energy supplier has reached a new high of nearly seven million.
Recent analysis by Citizens Advice has found that energy network companies have made billions in excess profits while households across the country have struggled with soaring bills.
Citizens Advice wants network companies to use this money to support those struggling with rising costs, by funding targeted energy bill support and debt write-off schemes.
