Interested in becoming an advice volunteer?

Becoming an advice volunteer can be hugely rewarding. We offer a full free training program, the opportunity to be part of a supportive likeminded team of advisers, and the chance to really make a difference to people’s lives.

Training and commitment

Our next volunteer adviser training is likely to start in spring 2024 and will last for around 3 months. You will need to attend seven weekly half day training sessions and half a day each week to observe our existing advisers.

Once your training is complete we’d ask that you could volunteer on a regular basis for at least one whole day (10-4pm) or two half days a week. We also ask that you’re able to commit to us for at least a year to help us be sure that our investment in training will be worth it.

Most of our advice volunteers are based in our Winchester office but there may also be the opportunity for community or home-based advice too.

Skills

You will need good IT skills, a can-do attitude, and be an excellent communicator but other than that no prior experience is needed.

Being an advice volunteer can be challenging at times but you are never on your own and you’re not expected to know the answer the everything – just where to look so you can help people understand how to move forward.
