The first Citizens Advice bureaux’s opened their doors in 1939, the day after war was declared. This new advice service was vital in supporting the civilian population during war time particularly with issues around housing and the fledgling social welfare system.
Over the years, Citizens Advice has developed into a highly trusted network of over 360 independent charities which support people from all across the UK, delivering accurate, high quality advice to local people on a whole range of issues.
Supporting Winchester residents since 1952
A Citizens Advice service has existed in Winchester since 1952 when a small office opened on the High Street. The office has moved to several locations since then and is now based on Colebrook Street.
In 2012 the Winchester service merged with Bishop’s Waltham Citizens Advice in order to support people from all across Winchester District.
Our trusted service gives advice to over 100 people every week and we also campaign for change locally and nationally on behalf of our clients.
